Coq au vin and kale-peanut salad

I have often used Alton Brown's coq au vin recipe, but this time I tried Cook's Illustrated's. it needed more than double the stated amount of liquid (two bottles of wine, 5 cups of chicken broth) but I think it came out better in the end.

Priya made a kale salad with red peppers and a peanut dressing that was awesome.

Anjali's paneer crostini

our friend Anjali made us some paneer for Priya's birthday (strained in a wifebeater) and advised us to eat it for breakfast after frying it with zeera, onions, tomatoes, and turmeric, on toast over spicy sriracha ketchup. delicious!

Priya's birthday brunch 2013

long time no update. we spent all Saturday and Sunday cooking for Priya's annual birthday brunch! this year we dropped some dishes and tried out some new ones. I think the new dishes (a winter citrus salad with fennel, red onion, and pomegranate and especially a raw-Brussels sprout slaw with toasted almonds, lemon, and Parmesan cheese) were hits. some old favorites (beet-and-avocado salad with roasted-shallot dressing, poha, salmon from Acme, kielbasa from Kiszka, French green lentils, French toast casserole, Katie's egg-and-chiles casserole...) hung around, being awesome.
